There is a quite a buzz around mindfulness these days, and rightfully so!
Studies have revealed a wide variety of benefits, including:
Less stress, anxiety, and depression
More emotional well-being
Better interpersonal relationships
An easier time maintaining healthy habits like diet and exercise
Sounds great, right? But what exactly is mindfulness?
As the name suggests, mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to (i.e., being mindful of) anything in life we choose to focus on.
The operative word here is “choose.”
You can bring mindfulness to any experience or thought by choosing to take an internal step back to become an observer, instead of allowing yourself to get emotionally swept away.
The more you practice mindfulness, the more easily you can access it when you are in heightened moments of stress, anger, sadness, or other challenging emotions that might otherwise send you reeling. It may be hard to imagine a life being free from those all-too-familiar triggers, but it really is possible!
Going deeper with mindfulness and applying tools of self-compassion opens the doorway for true acceptance of yourself as you — just the way you are in any given moment. Beyond the calming benefits of being less reactive in life, this element of self-compassion brings with it a deep sense of relief and ease that permeates your whole being.
Mindfulness is a practice that you can add into your existing home life, career, spiritual or religious beliefs, personal and professional relationships, and any other aspect of your daily experience that could use more calm and clarity.
If you’re ready to respond rather than react, feel deeply without feeling out of control, and improve your overall health and well-being, mindfulness is well worth exploring.
